2004 CAMPING TRIP
RIDGEWAY STATE PARK

July summertime fun for the San Juan Coloradans for
Nebraska included a camping trip to Ridgway State Park.
Pictured is the group gathering before enjoying a
"Cream Can Dinner" together on the last night of camping.
Spending time together, eating smores, playing "Washer Board",
participating in "Name the Marmot" contest was some of the
other fun events at the camping trip.

Beverly Powell arranged with the Park Ranger station at
Ridgway State Park to have a "Name the Marmot" contest
for the Marmot that lives at the park. At the San Juan
Coloradans for Nebraska camping trip in July everyone
submitted a name for the Marmot and then the Park Rangers
staff selected the best name and came to our campsite to
announce the winner. This was a fun event with lots of
clever names, the one selected was Maury (Morrie) Marmot
by Leslie Sams. The neat part of this whole event was
that the Park Ranger was a graduate from CU, and had a
great time being a part of our contest.
